Millions of businesses have little or no interest in what happens to there traffic or where it came from and where it goes. There is nothing wrong with this is you have an overwhelming demand for your product or services. But things can changes as we know with COVID-19. This suddenly gave a wake-up call for the businesses that had ignored online sales.
Analytics comes in all shapes and sizes, so its worth looking your options so you don’t get an overload of stats all at once. “Analysis paralysis” can blow your mind. So these are your options:
- Insights
- Search console
- Analytics tracking code
- Site Kit

After several tests, I would recommend this Chrome extension for UTM tagging. Its called Google Analytics URL builder and is found on Trafikant’s website.
This special tool will provide you with a unique tracking code for your analytics account. Using whats known as the UTM address (“UTM” stands for “Urchin tracking module.” Urchin acquired by Google in 2005 – today Google Analytics.)

Why Add Google Analytics To Google My Business
Google analytics helps you for several reasons including:
- You want to see if a campaign is working.
- Does GMB play an important role in driving visits to business websites?
- You are advertising using your GMB and need to see its ROI (Return On Investment).
- You want to see where and at what time the most profitable clients are clicking.
- Where do they go after clicking through Google My Business
- Do they have a high bounce rate?
As mentioned above not every business owner wants the in-depth analysis. So I liken most business owners to 1 of 3 types of animals in character:
Ostrich buries its head in the sand – This owner hopes the business will get by.
Busy Beaver – He responds to things he sees immediately. Avoids being bogged down.
The Chimp – This geek loves problem-solving. He owns analytics and loves nit-picking detail.
Google My Business Insights
Much data can be gathered through insights. Its found within the GMB dashboard on the left hand side menu. GMB insights will answer questions like how much traffic do your photos bring in? Is your visitors finding you on Maps or Google search? How do you compare to other listings within your business category?

Site Kit sits directly in the WordPress dashboard. It gives you a full flavour of insights about how people find and use your site, how to improve, your content. What issues you have and how your pagespeed works on mobiles and desktops.
